1 Day Left: Train from 1963 to 2008

Monday, November 3, 2008

I had wanted to post this weeks ago the night Obama was to speak at the DNC, but we had rights issues at the last minute.

It’s the recording Studs Terkel made on the train ride from Chicago to the March on Washington in 1963.  Studs of course died last week.

PRX still couldn’t get rights to the audio but WBEZ is hosting.  It truly is remarkable radio and I encourage all to listen.  A nice pairing would be Obama’s speech at the DNC.

It’s sobering to think what that train ride back to Chicago was like in 1963.  Fast forward to tomorrow where the first Afirican American might be elected president.
